Working with cattle is a fantastic way to train your horse. It gives your riding and training a purpose and horses become very focused on the task. The way we work with cattle is very different to what you have probably seen in most modern disciplines like cutting, campdrafting and team penning where there is an emphasis on high energy and speed.
We work with our cattle slowly and calmly and the cattle provide amazing training opportunities. In young and green horses to build confidence and forwards encouragement and in more advanced horses to practise movements such as shoulder-in, travers and renvers, half-pass, turn backs, transitions and more.
All horses are able to participate in our cattle working clinics. It’s great exposure for young horses and many older horses find a new enthusiasm for training when cows are involved.
This training day will include a short theory session on how to work with cattle on horseback, introduction to the cattle from the ground if your horse has never seen them before and then progressing to riding with the cattle. If your horse is used to cattle you will have the opportunity to hone your skills.
The day starts at 8.30am and finishes at 4pm. The venue is in Morangup – address and details will be provided to participants.
There are limited places available to keep the group small so that everyone gets plenty of time on cattle. Book in quick to secure your place.
If you have any questions or concerns about whether this training day is suitable for you and your horse feel free to give Andrew a call on 0477655650 to discuss.
